Chelsea FC are interested in a deal to sign Uruguay international Matias Vecino before Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Blues are believed to be in the market for some further signings this summer as they prepare for Maurizio Sarri’s first campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea FC have already signed Jorginho and Rob Green this summer as they look to assemble a squad at least capable of breaking back into the top four next season.

The west London side have been strongly linked with a number of players this summer as they look to try and strengthen their squad before the close of the transfer window at 17:00 on Thursday.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Sheth has confirmed that the Blues are interested in a deal to sign 26-year-old Uruguay and Inter Milan midfielder Vecino.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “There is talk of Matias Vecino. That won’t go away at the moment. Sarri knows him very well.”

Chelsea FC beat Lyon on penalties on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign.

The west London club will take on Huddersfield Town in their Premier League opener on Saturday as they look to try and get their campaign off to a positive start.
