Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that Alexandre Lacazette is a better number nine than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners signed Lacazette in a £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the 2017 summer transfer window to improve their attack.

Arsenal spent a club record £58m fee on Borussia Dortmund forward Aubameyang back in January despite signing Lacazette six months earlier.

The Gabon international hit the ground running with 10 goals in 14 games to raise questions about Lacazette’s future at The Emirates.

Aubameyang and Lacazette both got on the score sheet in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Former Arsenal striker Wright claimed that Lacazette is a better finisher than Aubameyang if given the right service.

“I think Lacazette is the better straight up number nine,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He is a really clinical finish given the opportunity.”

Arsenal were 4-2 winners against Vorskla in their Europa League opener at The Emirates last week.

The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the north London side finished the season unbeaten.

Arsenal signed five players in the summer transfer window to revamp Unai Emery’s squad.
