The Englishman has been ever-present for Liverpool at the start of the campaign, playing alongside Naby Keita and Georginio Wijnaldum in the middle of the park.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have won all seven of their games in all competitions, most recently dispatching Southampton 3-0 at Anfield and they now look set to mount a strong title challenge in the Premier League.
Arsenal meanwhile, have endured a mixed start under new boss Unai Emery, losing their opening two fixtures before embarking on a five-match winning run.
Ozil has been a fixture in the starting XI but has once again been criticised for a lack of effort and sub-par performances, which continues the running theme of his time at The Emirates.
Ex-Arsenal midfielder Merson believes that Ozil should be trying to follow Milner’s example.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I think every kid should watch this lad, every kid should watch this lad.
“Every week he turns up, every week. You never see him think ‘nah, not today’. I say every kid, I think Ozil should be watching him to be fair.”
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are gearing up for third round matches in the Carabao Cup this week, with the former taking on Chelsea at Anfield and the latter scheduled to face Brentford at the Emirates.
Emery might be tempted to rest Ozil for the match and blood some of the younger members of his squad, however, Milner is highly likely to feature in Klopp’s team for the all-Premier League tie on Wednesday.
Ozil could certainly do with improving his overall enthusiasm on the pitch as his Arsenal career continues and could definitely learn from Milner’s tenacity and determination to push his team forwards.
