Ian Wright admitted that he was “delighted” for Lucas Torreira after he helped to inspire Arsenal to a 2-1 win at Newcastle United on Saturday.

Torreira has been settling into life at the north London side after having arrived at The Emirates from Sampdoria in the summer transfer window.

The young midfielder is still waiting to make his first Premier League start for Unai Emery’s men but he came off the bench at half-time on Saturday to help to inspire Arsenal to a solid victory over the Magpies.

And Arsenal legend Wright has admitted that he wants to see more of the Uruguay international after he congratulated him for his display against the Magpies.

Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, Wright said: “I am delighted for Torreira, because he wants to get the ball forward he wants to attack and get players forward that can hep hurt the opposition.

“That’s why I wanted him to play [from the start].”

Arsenal are aiming to try and at least break back into the top four in the Premier League this season after they finished in sixth place and without a trophy last term.

The north London side have not lifted the Premier League trophy since their famous final triumph under Arsene Wenger in the 2003-04 campaign.

Arsenal brought in Emery as the club’s new manager back in May after Arsene Wenger stepped down at the end last season.
