Lee Dixon has said that a top-four finish for Arsenal is most likely beyond reach as they contend with adjusting to a new manager.

Unai Emery took the helm at Arsenal this summer, replacing Arsene Wenger who had spent 22 years in charge at the club.

Dixon thinks that the change in mentality under Emery will take a while to get used to as he employs a less possession-based game.

“It’s looking very difficult at the moment with the top four, so I think there’s got to be a lot of improvement,” he said in the Daily Star.

“Not only with different personal over the next couple of years but a different change in mentality that gets them a little bit more consistent without the ball.”

Performances deteriorated toward the end of Wenger’s reign which has seen a significant gap open up between Arsenal and the teams ahead of them.

Emery is faced with a tough task of leading Arsenal back into the Champions League after they missed out last season for the second time in two seasons.

After losing their first two games this season, against Manchester City and Chelsea FC respectively, Arsenal have bested West Ham and then Cardiff to pull themselves up the table.

Criticism was rife after the first two games which were probably an unfair litmus test for a manager’s start to life in the Premier League.

Arsenal take on Newcastle after the international break who have a whole host of problems themselves, and the Gunners will look to secure another three points to keep one foot in the Champions League race.
