Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Granit Xhaka struggles to produce energetic performances for Arsenal in midfield.

The Switzerland international has rarely produced consistent performances for the north London side since signing for the Gunners from Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2016.

Xhaka has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team but most Gunners fans would admit that he is yet to step his game up and produce consistent displays this term.

The 25-year-old midfielder has started all three of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this season and he played the full 90 minutes during the 3-1 win over West Ham United last weekend.

However, former Liverpool FC star Redknapp feels that Xhaka is yet to hit top form for the Gunners, and claims that he seems to struggle due to a lack of energy.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “Granit Xhaka seems to struggle in there, he hasn’t got the legs to get around and he’s always going to get booked, so I feel it is very difficult for this team, they haven’t got the legs or energy in midfield.

“How he changes it is not going to be that easy, but that is certainly one thing I would look at. Maybe more so at home where you know you’re going to have more possession.”

Arsenal will travel to Cardiff City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they look to try and make it back to back wins in the top flight.

The north London side finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy under Arsene Wenger last season.
