Ex-Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky insists that he ‘trusts’ new manager Unai Emery to steer the club in the right direction.

Arsenal lost against Premier League champions Manchester City and Chelsea in their opening two games of the new season, shipping five goals in the process.

They conceded a further three in back-to-back wins against West Ham and Cardiff City, underlining the fact that there is a lot of work to be done defensively before Arsenal can be considered realistic contenders for a top-four finish.

Emery’s men will travel up North to face Newcastle on Saturday as the 2018-19 campaign resumes after the international break, which will be another tough game for the club.

Former fan favourite Rosicky insists that while there is clearly a lot of room for improvement, Emery ultimately has the pedigree and experience to get it right at the Emirates in the long run.

As per The Evening Standard, Rosicky said: “There are some positives, some negatives. We have to get used to it and we would all like to see the team grow.

“The team is scoring goals, even in difficult games like Chelsea away, which is important.

“There are a lot of positives obviously, a lot of negatives as well because the team is conceding.

“But Unai Emery is very experienced and was successful everywhere he has been. I trust him and I hope he will do well and we will see the team grow and develop.”

Supporters will be expecting a third consecutive win for Arsenal this weekend against a Newcastle side yet to pick up a win this season, but St James’ Park is a notoriously difficult place to play.

The defence will have to stand up stronger than it has so far to keep Rafa Benitez’ side at bay, while at the other end Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will be expected to deliver the goods once again.
