Mark Lawrenson has told Manchester United to sort out their problems and win when they visit Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Burnley come off the back of a disappointing week which saw them knocked out of the Europa League despite a spirited display at Turf Moor on Thursday, as well as going down 4-2 at Fulham.

United too are in a rut as they haven’t won since the opening day, and Jose Mourinho’s antics with the media continues to generate negative headlines.

Lawrenson explained on his BBC Sport Premier League predictions column: “Burnley are out of the Europa League and struggling.

“Manchester Utd are in a bit of a mess – it is time to get their heads screwed on and get a win.”

Manchester United have to bounce back from back-to-back defeats, firstly 3-2 away at Brighton, and then going down 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford last Monday.

Since then, Mourinho has held a number of bizarre news conferences; first of all, he demanded respect for being the most winningest manager currently in the league.

Secondly, he lavished praise himself as one of the world’s best managers, a claim he would still believe even if he does not win a league title with United.

After a summer of failed transfers, Mourinho seems to be feeling the pressure and is in desperate need of a result on Sunday.

His opposite number, Sean Dyche, will be disappointed he couldn’t lead Burnley into the Europa League group stage, but will be relieved at seeing his fixture schedule empty in the face of another challenging season.

Dyche, and his team, will see this as an opportunity.
