Jamie Carragher raves about Chelsea FC star Eden Hazard
The Liverpool FC legend hails Chelsea FC forward Eden Hazard as the Premier League's standout player
Jamie Carragher has described Chelsea FC star Eden Hazard as the best player in the Premier League.
The Blues were 2-1 winners against Liverpool FC in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Hazard came off the bench to score a sensational winner to book Chelsea FC’s place in the fourth round of the cup competition.
The Belgium international has scored five times in six Premier League games so far this season to make an exciting start to the season.
The 27-year-old hasn’t scored more than 16 goals in an individual Premier League campaign after Hazard helped Antonio Conte’s side win the title in 2016-17.
Hazard was linked with a potential move to Champions League holders Real Madrid in the summer transfer window but los Blancos didn’t sign the Belgian star.
However, reports in the British media suggest that Hazard could be playing for a move to The Bernabeu next summer given his contract situation at Stamford Bridge.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher believes Hazard is the Premier League’s best player.
“All the greatest players have the power,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “Think of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Gianfranco Zola and you can even go back to Diego Maradona and Pele. They can’t be bullied in football. Even though they are great players, you think ‘how do you stop them?’ You can’t knock them off the ball and he has got that power and strength in the legs and the backside.
“When the ball goes wide it’s like the best player in the schoolyard saying ‘give me the ball’. He wasn’t in a great position to receive it, but then he scored the goal.
“I said on commentary that he is the best player in the Premier League. It’s not because he scored that goal, I believe it. I think he should have been named the best player of the World Cup also.
“He is an absolute superstar. The last domestic cup game he played was the FA Cup final. He won that game by winning the penalty and scoring it. He won this game as well.”
Hazard has won two Premier League titles, the Europa League, the FA Cup and two League Cup during his spell at Chelsea FC after his move from Lille in the 2012 summer transfer window.
