Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea FC are lacking a figurehead in Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

The Blues have been a surprise package in the opening months of the Premier League season so far.

Chelsea FC have won five of their opening six top flight fixtures to make a positive start to life under Sarri.

The west London side dropped their first points of the 2018-19 season following a 0-0 draw with West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Chelsea FC have been big characters such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry depart over the past four seasons or so.

The Blues have won the Premier League title in two of the past four seasons under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher believes the Blues need some leaders in their squad following the exodus of club legends in recent campaigns.

“You think of the times when they have won titles – [Didier] Drogba and [Diego] Costa – they haven’t got that right now,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “They’re lacking that figurehead.”

Chelsea FC have beaten Huddersfield Town, Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Arsenal and Cardiff City in the current Premier League campaign.

The Blues eased to a 1-0 win over PAOK in Greece in their opening Europa League fixture on Thursday night.

The west London side will welcome current Premier League leaders Liverpool FC to Stamford Bridge next weekend.
