Paul Merson has heaped praise on Jorginho for a promising start to his Chelsea FC career.

The Blues signed the Italy international in a £57m deal from Napoli in the summer after seeing off competition from defending champions Manchester City.

Jorginho was a key part of Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli team after the Naples outfit challenged Juventus for the Scudetto in 2017-18.

The Brazilian-born star has started all six of Chelsea FC’s Premier League fixtures so far, being used in a holding midfield role.

Jorginho has usurped N’Golo Kante in a defensive midfield role as the France international is being used in a more attacking position.

Former Arsenal playmaker Merson has heaped praise on Jorginho for his start to life at Stamford Bridge.

“Jorginho is a proper player,” Merson told Sky Sports. “He always looks forward. It’s very rare he goes sideways.”

Chelsea FC summer signing Jorginho scored in the Blues’ 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the Premier League back in August.

The west London side haven’t won the Europa League since 2013 when Chelsea FC eased to narrow win over Portuguese side Benfica.

Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against PAOK in their Europa League opener last week as Sarri looks to win his first major trophy.

The Blues are in third place ahead of the visit of Liverpool FC on Saturday evening.
