Chelsea FC will come under fire should the Blues miss out on a top-four spot in the Premier League this season, Stuart Pearce has warned.

Maurizio Sarri has made a brilliant start to his Blues career after the Italian head coach took over the reins from Antonio Conte in the summer.

Chelsea FC won their opening five Premier League games to hoist themselves up to top spot in the Premier League table.

However, the west London side were held to a goalless draw with derby rivals West Ham United at the London Stadium last weekend.

The Blues dropped down to third spot in the Premier League table following their stalemate in Stratford.

Premier League leaders Liverpool FC will make the trip to Chelsea FC in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Former Manchester City defender Pearce believes Chelsea FC can ill-afford to miss out on a top-four spot in Sarri’s debut season.

“Chelsea have to be in the top four,” Pearce told Sky Sports. “We can excuse Arsenal but I don’t think we can excuse Chelsea or else criticism will be coming their way.”

Liverpool FC lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the Premier League back in May.

The Blues have beaten Huddersfield Town, Bournemouth, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Cardiff City in the Premier League so far.

Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against PAOK in the Europa League in Greece last week.
