Andy Townsend doesn’t believe Liverpool FC’s League Cup loss to Chelsea FC will have a negative affect on their Stamford Bridge clash on Saturday evening.

The Blues sprung a surprise with a 2-1 victory over the Premier League leaders in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield thanks to goals from Emerson Palmieri and Eden Hazard.

Chelsea FC are two points adrift of Liverpool FC in the table and can hoist themselves above the pacesetters in the Premier League table with a win in west London.

Liverpool FC lost 1-0 to Antonio Conte’s side at Stamford Bridge and have now suffered defeats in their last two meetings with the FA Cup holders.

The Reds have won their opening six Premier League games of the season, including a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley earlier this month.

Former Chelsea FC defender Townsend doesn’t believe Liverpool FC will be negatively affected by their Carabao Cup disappointment.

“They don’t lose tremendous momentum,” Townsend told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They will pick it up again very quickly.”

Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot.

Eden Hazard netted a brilliant winner to secure a 2-1 win over Liverpool FC in the League Cup third round.
