Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to settle for a 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

The Premier League leaders will make the trip to west London looking to set a new division record with a seven successive victory.

Liverpool FC haven’t put a foot wrong in the Premier League this term to move two points clear of Manchester City and Chelsea FC in the table.

The Blues travelled to Anfield in the League Cup third round on Wednesday night and Chelsea FC came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Emerson Palmieri and Eden Hazard.

Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2017-18 season but the Blues still missed out on fourth place.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes Jurgen Klopp’s men will be more than happy to settle for a point at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

“This will be a very intriguing game. You’ve got Eden Hazard who you could see on Wednesday is the best of the best at the moment without a doubt but you’ve still got the big boys to come back for Liverpool like Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and the back four,” Merson told Sky Sports.

He added: “But it was like a boxing match, no one was really showing their hand until Hazard came on and you’re thinking ‘how do you stop him?’. I think Liverpool will be more than happy with a 1-1 draw, that would be a great result for them.”

Maurizio Sarri took over the reins of the Chelsea FC team from his compatriot Antonio Conte in the summer.

Liverpool FC signing Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker in the 2018 summer transfer window.

The Reds have finished in fourth place in the last two Premier League seasons.
