Ethan Ampadu is no longer Chelsea FC’s ‘little secret’, according to Pat Nevin.

The teenager has been earning lots of praise for his strong performances for Chelsea FC since signing for the Blues from Exeter City last summer while Antonio Conte was in charge.

Ampadu made a handful of first-team appearances last term under Conte and earned plenty of new admirers for his mature performances for the west London club.

The 17-year-old is still to make his competitive debut under new Chelsea FC manager Maurizio Sarri, but he impressed during Wales’ recent games against the Republic of Ireland and Denmark.

And Nevin seems to feel that it is only a matter of time until Ampadu is holding down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Writing in his column for Chelsea FC’s website, Ampadu said: “Maybe the most obvious example of what you need to be however is now being shown by Ethan Ampadu.

“He joined Chelsea from Exeter at the beginning of last season and was our little secret for a short while but anyone who watched his midfield performance for Wales against Ireland will know that the cat is well and truly out of the bag.

“Against international players he absolutely bossed the game and was arguably the best player on the field.

“He was exactly the same but this time playing at centre-back in his last outing for Chelsea, against Lyon in the pre-season game.”

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when the Blues take on Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The west London side have made a strong start to the new campaign and have won all four of their opening four Premier League games so far this term.
