Maurizio Sarri told he’s making a Chelsea FC mistake with N’Golo Kante

Paul Merson feels that Maurizio Sarri should be playing N'Golo Kante in a deeper role for Chelsea FC

Paul Merson believes that N’Golo Kante is not suited to playing further forward as he has done for Chelsea FC this season.

Kante is widely regarded as one of world football’s best holding midfielders and he helped both Leicester City and Chelsea FC to win the Premier League title with his fine performances in midfield.

Maurizio Sarri has opted to deploy Kante in a slightly more advanced position in midfield to make space for summer signing Jorginho in his Chelsea FC side.

However, Merson feels that playing Kante there is not as beneficial to the Chelsea FC team as when he plays in his typical holding midfield role.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Merson said: “It isn’t his position further up the pitch.

“He gets around. To win two titles with two different teams shows how good he is [in a deeper role].”

Chelsea FC are aiming to be one of the main challengers for the Premier League title this season after they finished in fifth place and won the FA Cup under Antonio Conte last term.

The Blues will now switch their attentions back towards Europa League affairs and their home clash against Videoton in the group stage on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri was brought in back in July after Chelsea FC opted to part company with former Blues boss Conte after two seasons.
