Marcos Alonso praised Chelsea FC’s start to the season after their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth – but asserted there is still room for improvement from the south-west London side.

Chelsea FC have taken maximum points this season which has seen them join Liverpool FC on top of the Premier League, only behind the Merseyside club on goal difference.

Alonso has played a huge part in Chelsea FC’s success and has claimed that he and his teammates are flourishing under the new regime of Maurizio Sarri.

“We are working very well, but there is still room for improvement,” he said to BBC Sport.

“We’re feeling good – we like what we’re doing, and we are 100% focused on what we’re doing.

“It was difficult with them playing 4-5-1 but we were patient and we always know we have attacking players who can break teams down.

“The mentality and the fresh stuff we are doing – we’re working hard on the training ground too – when we give everything we know we have the quality to win.

“Our focus now goes to the national teams but when we come back it will still be only the fifth game so there is a long way to go.”

Chelsea FC go into the international break on top of the table and will be proud of that achievement after yesterday’s win over a side who beat them 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last season.

They have received criticism over their defensive play which have been answered with a second clean sheet of the season, but this is perhaps what Alonso was alluding too when he suggested Chelsea could improve.

Alonso has been Chelsea FC’s first-choice left-back since joining from Fiorentina in 2016 in a £24m deal and has since gone 86 appearances for the Blues, scoring eight goals.

He has been a key part of Chelsea FC’s attacking play under new boss Sarri who took over from Antonio Conte in the summer and was charged with bringing a more attractive brand of football to Stamford Bridge.

He is a graduate of the Real Madrid academy and initially played in England for Bolton Wanderers and then later Sunderland.
