Maurizio Sarri believes that Marcos Alonso has the potential to become the best left-back in the world at Chelsea FC.

The Spaniard has earned lots of praise for his solid displays for the west London side in recent seasons and he played a key role in helping the Blues to win the Premier League title under Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season.

Alonso has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea FC team since signing for the Blues from Fiorentina in the summer of 2016.

The 27-year-old has started all four of Chelsea FC’s Premier League games so far this season under Sarri and has notched up two assists and scored one goal in those outings.

Sarri feels that Alonso still has work to do to improve the defensive side of his game, but the Blues boss has been delighted by what he has seen from the left-back recently.

Speaking at his post-match news conference after Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, Sarri said: “Alonso at the moment, in this left-back position, is maybe the best in Europe.

“He has physical qualities at the top level, he’s doing very well in the offensive phase but I think he can improve in the defensive phase.

“So if he improves in the defensive phase he could be the best left-back in the world.”

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have won all four of their opening Premier League games so far this season.
