Maurizio Sarri has warned Alvaro Morata that he will need to work hard to regain his confidence after a slow start to the new season with Chelsea FC.
The Spanish striker started for the Blues in their 1-0 win over PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday night but was unable to get on the score-sheet as he featured for 81 minutes in Greece.
Morata has started four of Chelsea FC’s five games in the Premier League so far this season and he has so far netted one goal in all competitions for Sarri’s men.
The 25-year-old will now be hoping to impress new manager Sarri as he bids to try and hold down a regular spot in the first team and enjoy a strong second season at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri, though, has admitted that Morata is significantly lacking in confidence and has warned the striker that it is down to him to find his best form again.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Thursday night, Sarri said: “Morata has to gain confidence with one, two or three goals.
“I am not able to give him confidence. In this game he had three or four opportunities, he was unlucky.
“I hope in the future I can try to help him, but the confidence comes only with goals.
“But I have to say also that for the first time this season he was very ready in the box. He was on the ball, he was active.”
Chelsea FC will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to West Ham United in the top flight on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues are currently top of the table after having won all of their games this season.
