Maurizio Sarri believes that Liverpool FC will battle Manchester City for the Premier League title this season, and Chelsea FC still have some catching up to do.

Sarri is getting used to life in charge at Stamford Bridge after having been appointed as Antonio Conte’s successor at the west London club back in the summer months.

The Blues have made a solid start to the new campaign but Sarri’s primary aim this season will be to guide the west London club back into the Premier League’s top four after they finished in fifth place last season.

Liverpool FC have been in strong form so far this term under Jurgen Klopp and it looks likely that the Reds will be one of the main challengers for the title this season.

Sarri believes that Liverpool FC and Manchester City are the standout early contenders to win the title this season.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday before this weekend’s round of Premier League games, Sarri said when asked who he thinks the main challengers for the title are: “At the moment I can answer City or Liverpool.

“We need another step to be at the same level. I think this season is too soon, but I hope not. The gap was 30 points at the beginning of the season. to cover 30 points in only one season is very difficult.

“We need to improve, and we can improve. My feeling is that now we are not a very solid team in the defensive phase. My feeling during training is that this team can improve.”

Chelsea FC will now switch their attentions back towards Europa League affairs and their trip to PAOK on Thursday night.

The Blues brought in Sarri as their new manager after opting to sack Conte back in July.
