Maurizio Sarri insisted that Alvaro Morata is improving his game after the Chelsea FC boss substituted the striker during the Blues’ 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Morata started the game and featured for 61 minutes before being taken off and replaced by Olivier Giroud in west London.

The Spanish forward has started all four of Chelsea FC’s Premier League games so far this season but has been substituted in three of those matches by new boss Sarri.

Now, the Italian manager has explained his decision to bring Morata off, as he underlined his happiness with the striker.

Speaking at his post-match news conference after Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over the Cherries, Sarri said: “It depends on the situation on the pitch.

“At that moment we crossed three, four or five times in three minutes so I thought Giroud, in that moment, was better, but only for that reason.

“Alvaro is improving and maybe he needs more space. But I’m lucky because in that situation Giroud is very useful.”

Chelsea FC will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the new season when they take on Cardiff City after the international break.

The west London side are aiming to be one of the main challengers for the Premier League title this season after they finished in fifth place and won the FA Cup under Antonio Conte last term.

Chelsea FC brought in Sarri as their new boss after they opted to sack Antonio Conte during the summer months.
