The Belgium international has made a brilliant start to the Premier League season to earn rave reviews from his manager and team-mates.
The Blues forward scored his second-ever hat-trick for Chelsea FC in a 4-1 victory over promoted side Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
Chelsea FC were 2-1 winners against Liverpool FC in the Carabaro Cup third round thanks to Hazard’s last-gasp winner at Anfield to secure their progress in the competition.
Hazard was linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer to replace Cristiano Ronaldo but a deal failed to materialise.
January signing Barkley believes Hazard is better than Messi on current form.
“They are probably a lot more selfish than Eden is,” Barkley is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
“He is not a selfish player. He is happy getting two assists and the team winning. He is adding goals and he keeps improving. What he has done against Liverpool, honestly he’s doing it every day in training. It’s no surprise to us. At the minute, he is the best player in the world, I believe.”
Hazard has won two Premier League titles, the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League during his spell at Chelsea FC following a move from Lille in 2012.
The Belgian star won the PFA player of the year award in 2015 when he helped to inspire the west London side to the Premier League title.
Chelsea FC will be hoping to tie down Hazard to a new deal with less than 24 months left to run on his current deal.
