Graeme Souness believes Jurgen Klopp’s current Liverpool FC crop is the best Reds team since their last title success in 1990.

The Merseyside outfit maintained their perfect start to the new Premier League campaign on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 2-1 win at title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Klopp’s side passed their sternest test of the 2018-19 season so far after goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino sealed a narrow win at Wembley.

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but have finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds have been talked up as second favourites to win the Premier League title this term behind defending champions Manchester City.

Klopp won two Bundesliga titles during his stint in charge of Borussia Dortmund before the German head coach took over the reins at Anfield in 2015.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Liverpool FC’s impressive progress under Klopp, former Reds captain Souness said:

“This is the best Liverpool team since they won the league. I think they’ve got a great chance to win the league. City are fabulous, they’ve got equally fabulous players, and I think it’ll be nip and tuck all the way through if that’s the intensity Liverpool can play with.”

Liverpool FC will welcome Southampton to Anfield in their next Premier League game before the Reds make the trip to current Premier League leaders Chelsea FC.

The Reds will take on Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League opener at Anfield on Tuesday night.
