The Reds have made an encouraging start to the new season after Liverpool FC backed Klopp in the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita and Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri to bolster their options in the middle of the park.
Liverpool FC spent £67m on Brazil international Alisson Becker to sign the AS Roma goalkeeper to replace Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
The 18-time English champions have won their opening six Premier League games to secure top spot in the table in the early stages of the campaign.
Liverpool FC were 3-2 winners against Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield in their Champions League opener.
Klopp hasn’t won a trophy since the German head coach took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
Former Reds captain Thompson believes Klopp needs to win some silverware this term.
“Jurgen has to win a trophy this year,” Thompson told Sky Sports. “For the quality of squad he now has, he has to win a trophy.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot in successive seasons under Klopp to consolidate their progress.
The Merseyside outfit will make the trip to title rivals Chelsea FC in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
