Robbie Savage has warned it is too early to compare Naby Keita to Liverpool FC legend Steven Gerrard.

The Guinea international completed a £48m move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the 2018 summer transfer window.

Keita was handed the number eight shirt to become the first player to wear the prestigious jersey since Gerrard.

The African star has made impressive start to his Liverpool FC career after helping the Reds to secure five successive wins.

Keita’s creativity in the middle of the park has earned the former Red Bull Salzburg star comparisons to Gerrard.

However, former Leicester midfielder Savage poured cold water on the comparisons between Gerrard and Keita.

“Keita wears number eight but you can’t liken him to Steven Gerrard already,” Savage told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“If he is half as good, he will be a Liverpool legend.”

Liverpool FC were 3-2 winners against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Jurgen Klopp opted to leave the summer signing on the bench for the five-goal thriller against the Ligue 1 champions.

Liverpool FC lost 3-1 to La Liga side Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev back in May.
