Michael Owen heaped praise on Andy Robertson for his assist for Daniel Sturridge’s opener in Liverpool FC’s 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

The Scotland international has made a strong start to the Premier League season after helping the Reds to keep three clean sheets in their opening five outings.

Robertson has also shown his ability to create with two assists in victories over West Ham United and Leicester City in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old was tasked with keeping World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe quiet in the Champions League opener in one of his sternest tests at Liverpool FC to date.

Robertson managed to get the better for the PSG teenager for most of the European clash, although Mbappe did get on the score sheet with six minutes to go after Mo Salah’s error.

The Scottish defender, though, produced one of the moments of the Champions League clash with a brilliant cross to allow Daniel Sturridge to break the deadlock in the first half.

Former Liverpool FC striker Owen was impressed with Robertson’s assist for Sturridge.

“The one thing Sturridge has and never will lose, that instinct of where the ball is going to come,” Owen told BT Sport.

“Robertson’s ball is unbelievable – hitting a moving ball at that angle is amazing in itself. But finding the little space between Thiago Silva is even better.”

James Milner doubled Liverpool FC’s lead before Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappe levelled the clash.

Roberto Firmino came off the bench to score an added time winner.
