The Reds signed the Netherlands international in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
The Merseyside outfit lost 3-1 to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final after Van Dijk helped the Reds to reach the European showpiece.
Liverpool FC have been impressive in the opening five weeks of the Premier League season following a return of five successive victories.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have conceded two goals in the current campaign to highlight their defensive improvement following Van Dijk’s arrival.
Former Liverpool FC striker Heskey lavished praise on the world’s most expensive defender ahead of their home clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
“I’ve been impressed with their start,” Heskey told the Daily Star.
“With Liverpool, everyone knows they’re very dynamic going forward but defensively could be very frail.
“But with Van Dijk coming in it looks very solid now.
“Since Jamie Carragher retired and left they haven’t really had that defender who is very commanding back there.
“Someone who orders people about, ushers people around him, who is very solid at the back like that.
“And Van Dijk looks like that man to tick those boxes.”
Van Dijk scored on his Liverpool FC debut in a 2-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup third round in January.
The Dutch centre-half has scored one goal in the 27 appearances in all competitions since his big money move to Liverpool FC from Southampton.
