The Reds will be desperate to make amends for their League Cup exit when Liverpool FC make the long trip to Chelsea FC in the Premier League.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Melwood training ground, Klopp provided an update on Van Dijk’s fitness.
“Virgil is a world-class player, and if you miss a world-class player always it’s not cool,” Klopp said.
“We can play without Virgil, thank God. But I prefer if we can [play him]. The last game he wasn’t available, now we will see for Saturday. But [Dejan] Lovren played his first game in 10 weeks.
“He played an outstanding game. [Joel] Matip, two games in a row, fantastic. If Virgil is fit, he plays. If not, then obviously we have options.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot in the Premier League last term to see off Chelsea FC’s challenge for the final Champions League qualification spot.
The Reds signed Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window.
