Graeme Souness believes Liverpool FC will run Manchester City close in the title race if the Reds can continue their current form.

The Merseyside outfit passed their sternest test of the Premier League season so far after Liverpool FC eased to a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino helped to secure three points in what was a one-sided game despite the narrow margin of victory.

Liverpool FC are top of the Premier League after their 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday maintained their 100 per cent start to the new campaign.

The Reds are looking to win their first piece of silverware under Jurgen Klopp as well as their inaugural Premier League title.

Former Liverpool FC manager Souness believes the Merseyside outfit can win the title if the Reds can replicate their performance at Wembley throughout the season.

“If they can do that between now and next May, they won’t be far away even allowing for Man City’s wonderful players,” Souness told Sky Sports.

Liverpool FC signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, Stoke City forward Xherdan Shaqiri and AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have reached three cup finals under Klopp but Liverpool FC are still waiting to secure their first piece of silverware since the German’s appointment.
