Charlie Nicholas has warned Liverpool FC that the Reds are facing a difficult Champions League group stage after the draw was made on Thursday.

Last season’s finalists have been pitted against Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Red Star Belgrade in the group stage of Europe’s elite club competition as they look to try and enjoy a solid run once again this term.

Liverpool FC earned plenty of praise for their strong performances under Jurgen Klopp as they reached the final of last season’s competition but ended up losing 3-1 to Real Madrid.

The Reds have made a solid start to the new campaign and have won all three of their opening Premier League games to leave them leading the way at the top of the table.

However, Arsenal legend Nicholas has warned the Reds that they are facing a tough ask in trying to progress out of their group in the Champions League this term.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “Very hard. I actually think there are three tough ones in there, an awkward draw for Liverpool.

“It’s a really difficult one for them but it is not a group of death and I still think they are second favourites in this group behind PSG, who are by far the best footballing side and similar to the Reds.

“As well all know in Europe, Napoli – especially at home – are dangerous and it just takes one little slip up and Red Star are unpredictable.

“Jurgen Klopp’s men have to be on their game. I still think they will go through, but very tough.”

Liverpool FC, meanwhile, will return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on Leicester City in the top flight at the King Power Stadium.

The Reds are aiming to challenge for the title after finishing up in fourth spot last term.
