The Reds are looking to continue their strong start to the new campaign as they aim to challenge for the title following their fourth-placed finish in the top flight last term.
Liverpool FC have still not won a trophy since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in 2016, with the Reds having ended up as runners up in the Champions League last season.
The Merseyside outfit made a number of key signings in the summer transfer window, including bringing in the likes of Alisson Becker and Fabinho.
And former Arsenal star Nicholas seems to think that the Reds are well placed to be one of the main contenders for the title this season alongside defending champions Manchester City.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Nicholas said: “I genuinely felt that what they did in the summer made them title contenders. I think it is very close between Liverpool and Manchester City now.
“Tottenham are third in line but Liverpool are genuinely in frame to win the title. I’d still edge ahead with City because the problem I see is trying to accommodate all their midfielders.
“Jordan Henderson has to start because he’s the club captain, plus Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner and then Fabinho, who will expect to play when he’s fit.”
Liverpool FC will kick off their Champions League campaign when they take on Paris Saint-Germain in front of their home fans on Tuesday night at Anfield.
The Reds will be aiming to go one step further in the competition this season after their impressive run to the final last term.
