Phil Thompson believes that Liverpool FC will be one of the main title challengers this season alongside the likes of Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds are currently looking to establish themselves as genuine contenders for the title this term as they aim to try and win their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Liverpool FC have made a solid start to the new campaign and seem as though they will be one of the main challengers this season as they look to wrestle the title away from Manchester City.

Chelsea FC have also started the new season strongly, with the Blues having made a solid start to life under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

And Thompson feels that Liverpool FC will be one of the main title contenders this season because of the quality of summer signings they made.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Thompson said: “Because of the what we’ve added, yes we [Liverpool FC] are title contenders, but so are Tottenham and Chelsea. Whether we have the consistency is the big factor and we need to beat the teams we should beat while taking our share of scalps.

“We’ve got a big month ahead with Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City, so there’s some really big games in there coupled with the Champions League. We’ll have a far better idea by the end of September.

“Liverpool’s intensity dropped between West Ham and Leicester game but we’ve been more reliable on the defence so haven’t paid the price.

“It has been good but it hasn’t been brilliant and we haven’t blown teams away to the same degree as last season.”

Liverpool FC will kick off their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night when they host Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.

The Reds will be aiming to go one step further this season after they reached the Champions League final last term but ended up losing to Real Madrid in the showpiece back in May.
