Jurgen Klopp reacts to Joe Gomez’s display in Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win at Leicester
Jurgen Klopp praises Joe Gomez after Liverpool FC's 2-1 win over Leicester City
Jurgen Klopp singled out Joe Gomez for special praise after he helped Liverpool FC to claim a 2-1 win over Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
The Reds claimed the three points against the Foxes to maintain their 100 per cent start to the new campaign and keep their place at the top of the Premier League table.
Sadio Mane gave Liverpool FC the lead in the 10th minute, and Roberto Firmino made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.
However, Rachid Ghezzal pulled one back for the hosts early in the second half after an error from summer signing Alisson in the Liverpool FC goal.
But the Reds managed to hold on and claim the three points against the Foxes.
And Klopp was delighted by the way Gomez performed for the Reds to help keep Demarai Gray quiet on Saturday lunchtime.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Klopp said: “He was good, the plan was clear with Demarai Gray as a 9 to use his speed but Joe and Virgil (Van Dijk) are not too slow so it was not a good advantage for them. And they played football.
“The moment we were heading the high ball somewhere not to our man we looked lost.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action after the international break when the Reds take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season and without a trophy.
