Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool FC talks with Jordan Henderson
Jurgen Klopp discusses Jordan Henderson's role in the Liverpool FC team this season
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he has held regular discussions with Jordan Henderson about his role in the Liverpool FC team this season.
The Reds captain did not start any of their three opening Premier League games this season after being one of the last players to report back to Melwood for pre-season training following his involvement in the World Cup with England this summer.
Henderson will be looking to force his way back into contention for a place in the starting line-up in the coming weeks and months as he bids to try and help the Reds challenge for the Premier League title.
The England international has had to settle for substitute appearances for Liverpool FC so far this season.
However, Klopp has insisted that he has been delighted by Henderson’s attitude, despite his lack of playing time.
Speaking in an interview with Liverpool FC’s website, Klopp said: “Of course it is difficult for him as captain, but Hendo is such an important player to us and he knows that. We had talks about that.
“Especially with his style of play and how he puts everything on the pitch, you need to be in a really good shape physically. And he had these moments during the weeks, not this week, but the weeks before when you saw it is quite intense.
“You have to do that [the intense training] when you can [and] we could do it. Hendo was the last one to come back. OK Dejan [Lovren] was but he’s not been fit. Now Hendo has had four weeks. It will be six weeks by the time we play Tottenham.
“He’s not in doubt and I am not in doubt about his role so he has dealt with it [not starting] well.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season after finishing fourth and without a trophy last term.
The Reds reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing 3-1 to Real Madrid back in May.
