Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed that he is making steady progress as he bids to get back playing for Liverpool FC after his serious knee injury.

The England midfielder has been out of action after suffering a serious knee problem during the Champions League semi-final clash with AS Roma last season and undergoing surgery to correct the issue.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has since started working hard behind the scenes at Melwood as he looks to try and recover from the setback as quickly as possible.

The midfielder has begun training outside and he has revealed that he started some work with the ball recently as he looks to step up his rehabilitation.

And Oxlade-Chamberlain seems to be keeping himself in high spirits as he continues to work on his fitness levels.

Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website, Oxlade-Chamberlain said: “It’s going well – very boring, very slow, very long, all the good stuff!

“But I’m making progress, which is obviously what we need. It’s just a long process and I just keep plugging away, but I’m in good spirits and I’m really positive about it.

“You just get into a routine [with] tunnel vision and keep going, setting yourself little goals and little things to achieve.

“I passed the ball the other day, not very well, but I started passing the ball and that was massive for me to be able to kick and know that my knee can kick a ball.

“Even though it was five yards, I’ve started working on stuff like that and it’s little wins like that that keep you going and keep you pushing forward to the next one.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC are aiming to continue their 100 per cent start to the new Premier League season when they host Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds kicked off their Champions League campaign with a dramatic 3-2 home victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Liverpool FC reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing to Real Madrid in the showpiece back in May.
