The goalkeeper has been settling into life at Liverpool FC after having signed for the Reds from AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
Alisson arrived at Anfield as Liverpool FC began searching for a new shot-stopper after Loris Karius’ high-profile mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid back in May.
The Brazilian had been in solid form for the Reds before his error against Leicester City last time out, but Thompson feels that the goalkeeper will be able to learn from the mistake.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Thompson said: “He’ll learn from it. I think we were all expecting at some point because we know he likes to take a chance.
“He took a massive chance in the Brighton game and got away with it. So that was going to happen but we got away with it because we won the game against Leicester.
“Maybe that wouldn’t have been the same last year but hopefully he will have learnt. He says he will do but he will still do this passing out from the back.
“It’s not a problem to me but the passes from the goalkeeper do have to have intensity. He has to learn from that but he’s been fantastic besides that.”
Alisson will be hoping to keep a clean sheet when the Reds return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.
The Reds have won all four of their opening Premier League games this season to leave them leading the way at the top of the table.
Jurgen Klopp is aiming to guide Liverpool FC to their first trophy since his appointment at Anfield back in October 2015, and the Reds will be looking to be one of the main contenders for the title this season.
