Virgil van Dijk sends blunt warning to Liverpool FC team-mates
Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool FC still have plenty of room for improvement as they look to continue their run
Virgil van Dijk has warned his Liverpool FC team-mates that the Reds have plenty of room for improvement as they look to try and continue their solid start to the new campaign.
The Reds maintained their position at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday thanks to their 2-1 victory at Leicester City in the top flight.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino notched up the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s men as they maintained their 100 per cent start to the new campaign.
Liverpool FC are aiming to establish themselves as one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season after they finished fourth and without a trophy last term.
The Merseyside outfit were not at their best on Saturday against the Foxes but they still managed to get the job done and claim all three points.
And defender Van Dijk admits that the Reds still have a lot of work to do to get their campaign on track.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website after the game, Van Dijk said: “Those moments are very important. You need to get the win over the line and they’re going to try everything, especially at the end. We need to be on our toes, be ready, and it’s good that we are.
“We had moments that we needed to do much better, but we should be pleased with the win.
“We should not be pleased with the way, at times, we played. We should’ve done much better and made it a bit easier for ourselves, but overall some of the players today have been outstanding and we got the win so we’re happy.”
Liverpool FC will get back to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
