Jurgen Klopp reflects on ‘special’ Liverpool FC win over PSG
Jurgen Klopp delights in Liverpool FC's victory over PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night
Jurgen Klopp could not hide his delight after watching his Liverpool FC side secure a “special” victory over Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League opener on Tuesday night.
The Reds appeared to be in control of the game as Daniel Sturridge’s header and James Milner’s penalty put them 2-0 up in the first half.
However, Thomas Meunier pulled one back for the visitors before half-time, and Kylian Mbappe netted a second for PSG in the 83rd minute.
But it was Liverpool FC who took the three points, with Roberto Firmino netting the all-important winner in stoppage time to hand the hosts the victory.
Klopp’s side have won all six of their opening games in the Premier League and Champions League so far this season.
And the Liverpool FC boss was delighted by what he saw from his side in front of their home fans on Tuesday night.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Klopp said: “It was good, really good in all departments pretty much.
“It is so difficult to defend them, but we did. Good organisation and a big heart is always a good combination for defending. All 11 players were involved in that.
“A good performance against an outstandingly strong opponent; it was necessary we played good. The atmosphere was fantastic, so special to do these things in this stadium. It was nice.”
Liverpool FC will now switch their focus back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Southampton at Anfield on Saturday.
The Reds are currently level on points with Premier League leaders Chelsea FC after having won all five of their opening top-flight games.
