The Merseyside outfit will be looking to extend their winning run to six Premier League victories this weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s side haven’t put a foot wrong in the current campaign to make an exciting start to their title challenge.
The Reds passed their first major test last weekend following a comfortable 2-1 win over title rivals Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.
Liverpool FC were thrilling 3-2 winners against Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield in their Champions League group-stage opener.
Southampton have only managed to win one of their opening five Premier League games to leave the Saints in 13th spot in the table.
Former Arsenal star Merson doesn’t anticipate Liverpool FC having any problems against Mark Hughes’ men at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
“Liverpool were outstanding against Paris Saint-Germain, outstanding.” Merson told Sky Sports. “They made PSG look terrible – there is no chance they [PSG] can win the Champions League.
“I switched the Southampton v Brighton game off at half-time thinking it was dead and buried, Brighton were atrocious and Southampton were much improved.
“But then I woke up to images of Glenn Murray celebrating on the Sky Sports app and wondered how that had happened? I couldn’t believe it.
“The Saints should have won that game but I don’t see them having a chance against Liverpool. They look very good, they are all playing well.”
Liverpool FC are in second place and level on points with current leaders Chelsea FC.
The Reds signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit have beaten West Ham, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Brighton and Tottenham in their opening five fixtures.
