Stan Collymore has questioned whether Man United would be worse off without David De Gea in between the sticks.

Jose Mourinho’s men have endured a difficult start to the season after dropping eight points in their first six matches of the new Premier League campaign.

Manchester United slumped to a 1-1 home draw against Wolves on Saturday to compound their misery and left them even further behind table-toppers Liverpool, much to the dismay of supporters across Manchester.

De Gea has once again been a fixture in the squad as the last line of defence and his displays have already bailed the team out of trouble on numerous occasions this term.

Collymore has suggested that Man United would be worse off without the Spaniard.

Collymore told the Daily Mirror: “Where would United be without him? De Gea made two key saves from Wolves ‘ Raul Jimenez and Willy Boly to ensure that the home draw against Wolves didn’t get even worse.”

The pundit’s comments will certainly be food for thought for Mourinho, who has come under pressure for his negative tactics in the media in recent months.

Man United seem to invite pressure at the moment, which their current crop of defenders cannot cope with and thusly De Gea has had to come to the rescue to save his team.

Next up for Mourinho’s men is a long trip to the English capital to fulfill their Premier League commitments on Saturday against West Ham.

Manchester United must surely win the top flight clash to ease the pressure on Mourinho and get their domestic campaign back on track.
