Paul Scholes believes Manchester United aren’t making progress under Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but ended the campaign without silverware.

Manchester United were 2-1 winners against Leicester City in their opening fixture of the new Premier League season.

However, the 20-time English champions lost to Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur in successive fixtures to heap pressure on Mourinho.

The Red Devils, though, have responded with consecutive victories over Burnley and Watford to hoist themselves up to eighth place in the table.

Manchester United made a promising start to their Champions League campaign following a 3-0 victory over Young Boys in Switzerland on Wednesday night.

Former Red Devils star Scholes isn’t convinced that Manchester United are making progress under Mourinho.

“Do you see a team that’s improving?” Scholes told BT Sport.

“I really don’t think you do at this minute. As you say there are so many good teams in the league now. Your Citys, Liverpools, Chelseas. They just look too good for now.”

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table but ended up 19 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

The Red Devils won the Europa League and the League Cup in their first season under Mourinho but finished in fifth place in the Premier League table.

Mourinho signed Brazil midfielder Fred, Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the 2018 summer transfer window.
