The Manchester United manager should hold discussions with Paul Pogba behind closed doors, according to Martin Keown

Martin Keown has urged Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba to sort out their differences in a private setting rather than in the full glare of the world’s media.

The Manchester United manager has become embroiled in a public spat with his record signing despite Pogba’s impressive start to the Premier League season.

Mourinho made Pogba his vice captain earlier this season and the France star excelled in the role to help Manchester United beat Young Boys in the Champions League earlier this month.

However, the World Cup winner risked the wrath of his manager after Pogba appeared to criticise the team’s tactics following a 1-1 draw with promoted side Wolves at Old Trafford last weekend.

Mourinho stripped Pogba of the vice captaincy ahead of Manchester United’s loss to Championship side Derby County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The duo were caught on camera in what appeared to be a heated discussion at training on Wednesday following their League Cup exit.

Former Arsenal defender Keown urged Mourinho and Pogba to hold future discussions “behind closed doors”.

“They need to have a proper discussion in private, not in public,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“Do it in Mourinho’s office at Carrington, not on the training field while those eagle-eyed cameras are rolling. Show one another respect by doing that then keep whatever is said between yourselves. Don’t go leaking it.”

Manchester United will make the long trip to West Ham United in their next Premier League fixture at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
