Paul Merson tells Man United to sign Chelsea FC star in January
Paul Merson urges Manchester United to sell Paul Pogba and bring in Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea FC
Paul Merson has urged Manchester United to sign Cesc Fabregas in the January transfer window to replace Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s situation at Old Trafford has been a constant source of debate in recent weeks after an apparent breakdown in his relationship with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
The French midfielder has inevitably been linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford of late and that speculation is likely to gather pace once more as the January transfer window approaches.
Most Manchester United fans would probably agree that Pogba is yet to produce his best form for the Red Devils since his arrival at Old Trafford from Juventus back in the summer of 2016.
And Merson feels that Manchester United should cut their losses and get rid of Pogba – and bring in Chelsea FC midfielder Fabregas as his replacement.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Jose Mourinho is more important to Manchester United than Paul Pogba – and could prove it by bringing Cesc Fabregas in to replace him.
“Chelsea star Fabregas would give you more than Pogba is right now and he wouldn’t cost a fortune.
“Pogba is a good player but you can’t keep blaming the manager when it’s not going well. That’s what he’s doing by criticising the tactics.
“He looks like he’s trying to get out of the club – but where can you go? Manchester United are the biggest club in the world in my opinion, even if they’re not playing like it.”
He added: “If United can get their money back for Pogba and bring in Fabregas to replace him, they should do it. They’d be better off.
“You can’t keep indulging someone if they don’t want to be there. And Pogba doesn’t look like he wants to be there.”
Fabregas has missed the opening few weeks of the season after having suffered a knee injury but he is now back available for selection for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are now going to switch their focus back towards Champions League affairs and their home clash against Valencia on Tuesday night.
