Diogo Dalot could not hide his delight as he made his first appearance for Manchester United in the 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The full-back has been made to wait for his first-team opportunities this season after having arrived at Old Trafford from FC Porto in the summer transfer window.

Dalot has been struggling with a knee injury but he now is approaching full fitness and he featured for the full 90 minutes as the Red Devils claimed the three points in Switzerland on Wednesday night.

And Dalot was thrilled to play his part in the victory as Jose Mourinho’s men kicked off their Champions League campaign with a solid win against the Swiss side.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Dalot said: “It was very good.

“The team have helped me and prepared me for this. I am happy for the debut and for the win. That is most important. I think it was a good win.

“Most of the Young Boys team is used to playing on this pitch. We are not. It was tough but we needed to be prepared for that.”

Dalot will now be hoping to make his first appearance in the Premier League for Manchester United when the Red Devils host Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United are looking to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season as they aim to bounce back from their trophyless campaign last term.

The Red Devils ended up second in the table and without any silverware last season.
