Gary Lineker makes point about Man United star Marcus Rashford
Gary Lineker praises Marcus Rashford after he scored in England's win over Switzerland
Gary Lineker has tweeted his praise and support for Marcus Rashford after he scored the winning goal for England in their clash against Switzerland on Tuesday night.
Rashford tucked away Kyle Walker’s cross in the 54th minute at the King Power Stadium in Leicester to hand the Three Lions victory.
As a former striker himself, Lineker has seen Rashford’s stagnating development at Manchester United through sympathetic eyes.
Lineker tweeted: “Good to see Rashford on the scoresheet again. A prodigious talent. Always ups and downs for emerging players and easy to forget how young he is.”
Rashford’s two goals over the international break are his only two this season after failing to score so far for United.
Jose Mourinho refuses to deploy Rashford in his preferred central striking role at Old Trafford, and time away from United’s Carrington training ground and up top for the national team has clearly been greatly beneficial for Rashford.
The 20-year-old took the footballing world by storm when he debuted in 2015 under Louis van Gaal, but Mourinho’s system does not suit him.
When given the opportunity to play, Mourinho has put Rashford out on the wings to try and take advantage of his pace but most believe this to be hindering his development.
He has looked more and more forlorn at United and scoring with the national life will inject some life back into the youngster.
However, whether Mourinho will try and capitalise on this after two defeats from four this season is anyones guess.
