Atletico Madrid to fend off Man United interest in signing 22-year-old – report
Atletico Madrid are working to try and fend off interest from Man United in Lucas Hernandez, say reports
Atletico Madrid are ready to raise Lucas Hernandez’s buyout clause to €150m (£135m) in a bid to ward off interest from Manchester United, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish newspaper AS, as quoted by talkSPORT, is reporting that the La Liga side are working quickly on raising the 22-year-old’s release clause from where it currently stands at €80m (£72m).
The defender’s current contract is set to keep him at the La Liga outfit until 2024, but Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move to try and sign him in the January transfer window in recent days.
According to the same story, Manchester United are officially interested in signing the left-back in January and they also have the funds at their disposal to do so.
Now though, it is also being claimed that Atletico are working to try and get Hernandez to sign a new contract, which would both increase his wages and his release clause with the Spanish side.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will look to make it back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season when they take on Watford away from home after the international break.
