The French midfielder’s future has been a constant source of speculation in recent months and he was heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United in the summer.
Pogba has been criticised for failing to produce consistent performances for Manchester United in recent months and he struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team last term.
However, the midfielder was in fine form for France at this summer’s World Cup in Russia as he helped his country to win the trophy in style.
The speculation about Pogba’s future has continued in recent weeks but Mourinho has now insisted that he knows nothing about the midfielder’s apparent desire to quit Old Trafford.
Speaking at a news conference at Carrington before Manchester United’s trip to Watford on Saturday, Mourinho said: “The only thing that is clear for me is that the player never, never in all these days we are together, told me he wants to leave.
“Paul came back after the World Cup in the week before the start of the Premier League so we have been together for about two months or so and he has never told me that he wants to leave.
“So I can only comment on what is real for me, not in what I read, not in what I listen to. I have no direct relation with the people that write or the people I listen to.
“I have a direct relation with the players and he never told me he wants to leave. If he doesn’t tell me he wants to leave it’s because he wants to stay – that’s my conclusion.”
Manchester United will be aiming to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season as they bid to try and bounce back from their trophyless campaign last term.
The Red Devils won the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge but had nothing to show last season as they finished second in the Premier League and lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea FC.
