Rashford has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford under Mourinho despite showing plenty of promise as one of the Red Devils’ top players.
The 20-year-old has only started one of Manchester United’s opening four Premier League games so far this season and he was sent off during the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Burnley last weekend.
Now, ESPN pundit Nicol seems to think that Rashford will struggle to hold down a regular spot at Old Trafford as long as Mourinho remains in charge of the club.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol said: “There comes a time when you have to play.
“There comes a time when coming off the bench just doesn’t cut it anymore, it’s not enough time and it’s not good enough.
“Basically for me, right now, his career is being held back. I’ll be honest, I think the problem is the manager.
“If Jose Mourinho stays at Manchester United, then I think Rashford has to leave because he won’t get playing (time).”
Manchester United are currently six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool FC after a stuttering start to the season for the Red Devils.
Mourinho’s men will look to make it back to back wins in the Premier League this season under Mourinho when the Red Devils take on Watford away from home in the top flight later this month.
Manchester United have not won the Premier League since back in 2013.
