The Red Devils’ stuttering start to the new campaign continued as they were sent crashing to their third defeat of the season in the Premier League.
The result left Mourinho’s men down in 10th place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after seven games of the new season.
Manchester United were also knocked out of the League Cup at the hands of Derby County last week to further add to a difficult start to the new season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was not at all impressed by the attitude shown by the Manchester United players during their clash with the Hammers.
Speaking to BT Sport immediately after the game, Scholes said: “It was probably as bad as you’ll see from a Man United team.
“We spoke about attitude before the game. It’s been questioned in the last few weeks and today I think it has to be questioned again. The hunger and desire just wasn’t there.
“But on the other hand you have to give West Ham credit.”
Manchester United will now dust themselves down as they bid to get back to winning ways when they take on Valencia at Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils are aiming to be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title this season after they finished second and without a trophy last term.
