Man United join Tottenham in race to sign 21-year-old – report
Man United are keen on signing Ajax star Frenkie de Jong, according to reports
Manchester United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Ajax star Frenkie de Jong, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are expressing an interest in landing the 21-year-old, who can play both in defence and midfield.
According to the same story, Manchester United sent scouts to watch De Jong in action during Holland’s Nations League clash against France in Paris earlier this month, and they were suitably impressed.
The article goes on to claim that the Red Devils are now preparing to make a move to try and sign De Jong in the January transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to add to his squad in the new year.
The same article says that Mourinho is keen to add a versatile player to his squad in January, and De Jong could fit the bill as the January transfer window approaches.
As well as interest from Tottenham in De Jong, the same story claims that Manchester City had an offer in the region of £50m turned down last summer by Ajax for the midfielder.
De Jone has made five appearances in the Dutch league for Ajax so far this season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are now preparing for their Premier League clash against Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
